Re: Roy Hodgson to face the media?
Hodgson Took 12 million on false pretences from the FA...

Should have been replaced after WC2014...

Instead he managed to get even worse performances at the Euros...

Never rated him from the start...Lacks the ability to MOTIVATE and Fire up a team...

When will they get competent management at the FA...

There wasn't a game plan because Roy had no clue what our best team was.

Good riddance.

There was no real game plan, no plan B.'

This is what I don't get. At the 2012 Euros, Sweden were perceived to be weak at centre back. So Hodgson picked Carroll and he scored a towering header. A plan B from the start. Where has that flexibility gone?

Leroy, don't normally do Talk Sport but Deano made a lot of sense. Funny how he felt going away with the England Team felt so corporate. Seems a far cry from the Dentist Chair of your.

Re: Roy Hodgson to face the media?
Anyone hear Dean Ashton on TS last night ?

They asked him a question about England and he said before he answered he just wanted to say how disgusted he was with Hodgson''s attitude at the press conference.

Said he should have sat there and answered every question before he left

Should have fronted up......and his arrogance was staggering

So what's different?

It's not... it's virtually the same every fucking year... Shearer said we are BLINKERED by the EPL... we Think it's the greatest league in the world.... you take the foreign boys out of it and it's pretty average...

Exactly its weird but we'd be better off being like Ireland and Northern Ireland than this bunch of prima donnas.

Re: Roy Hodgson to face the media?
I'm wondering if we should pick championship players for the next England squad. Maybe picking from a league which has more english players playing leading roles in the their squads would yield a more cohesive team.

Sprinkle with the odd prem player here and there. We'd probably get further.

El Scorchio 2:23 Wed Jun 29
Re: Roy Hodgson to face the media?
Do they usually play like that week in week out? No. Not claiming any of them are world beaters, but we all know they are all much better than that.

So what's different? It's got to be the fact that some were not fit and shouldn't be in the squad, some were not in form and shouldn't be in the team, some were not in played in their position- many were not put in a position to be able to play to the best of their ability due to those reasons and more through the actions or inaction of the manager.

It's clear there was no proper system or gameplan in place for any of the four matches. Those factors combined with the above will drain the confidence of any player and then these things start to go wrong. Misplaced passes, not being able to do the basics. Once that starts it's a downward spiral. They will question their teammates and ultimately themselves.

To quote Linekar from your quote: 'nobody seemed to know what to do. There was no real game plan, no plan B.'

That is 100% on the manager and his staff. The players look to him for instruction. That's what he's there for. He has to prepare them for every eventuality.

Yes, they all played poorly, but in my opinion the manager did very little to put them in a position and mindset where they could actually play near to the best of their abilities.

Northern Sold 2:12 Wed Jun 29
Re: Roy Hodgson to face the media?
So Scorch is that the reason why they could not trap a bag of cement or pass a ball 5 fucking yards on Monday??

Lineker called it right...

"There's a degree of a lack of mental strength which maybe comes from a lack of success in recent tournaments and the pressure that comes on the England team.

"But don't you think for one minute that there is more pressure on the England team than there is on the Spanish team, the German team, the Italian team. The expectancy in those countries is higher than it is in our country. We tend to be quite realistic because we're quite used to failure.

"Perhaps we're not quite used to it on this scale. I'm sure once it started to go wrong and they got behind, you could sense nobody seemed to know what to do. There was no real game plan, no plan B.

I feel a little uncomfortable sticking up for the bloke, mainly because he was such a big let down, but he wouldn't have known who our opponents were that day, would he?

El Scorchio 2:08 Wed Jun 29
Re: Roy Hodgson to face the media?
He should be held accountable.

He hung several players out to dry in front of a huge global audience by playing some who were not fit, some who were woefully out of form, and some who were not played in a position to suit their strengths.

Re: Roy Hodgson to face the media?
"...Likewise, it probably looks even worse in hindsight that Hodgson and his assistant, Ray Lewington, went sightseeing in Paris on the day Iceland played Austria, visiting Notre Dame and taking a boat ride along the Seine, but chose not to make a personal check on the game that would yield England’s opponents..,...."

That sounds like something off Mike Bassett. You literally couldn't make it up.

Re: Roy Hodgson to face the media?
The attitude of Hodgson in the past year has shocked me.

I used to like him and always thought of him as one of the 'good guys' if not a top, top manager.

His stubborn selection process started to make me question him a little but the way he has handled this whole tournament and the aftermath shows him to be a massive cunt.

Re: Roy Hodgson to face the media?
Sven - Ha ha Kevin MUSCAT.

An Aussie is not the answer for our footballing problems, but look at Eddie Jones, his side we 2-0 up in the Series, could of played a different team, but said no, the AllBlacks, would win the series 3-0 and that is what we want to do. Kept the momentum going. It is a winning mentality.

What did Roy Hodgson do after beating Wales and a chance to win the group and keep momentum going, make 6 x changes thinking it will be ok. The Italians made 9 x changes, because they had already won the group and couldn't be caught because of the head to heads.

Tournament football is all about momentum and Woy clearly lost all of it when picking his team against Slovakia.

Re: Roy Hodgson to face the media?
his explanation of Kane taken spot kicks was crazy. Yes, technically Kane has been good for most of the season and statistically he may have been the best deliverer of the ball. And statistically, delivering the best ball in is more important to than having the best striker in the box.

but...

HE WASNT ANY GOOD ON THE DAY WAS HE!

His delivery was shit and has been since he started taking these kicks. He doesn't even do it for his club. So why is he doing it here? And more importantly, when you see that it's not working and he's having a poor game, why don't you change it?

U cant just sit there with your head in your hands, manage the game!

That's true
There is a definite under performace

With the cricket and rugby teams under AUSTRALIANS you at least feel they are competently managed and are moving in the right direction.
Unlike the football team.
Not sure we can help with that unless you want Kevin MUSCAT

TCHammer444 12:41 Wed Jun 29
Re: Roy Hodgson to face the media?
Sven - fair point, but Rugby and Cricket are the probably this nation 2nd & 3rd biggest sports behind football in this country, so I am only going on what is interesting in the sporting world for the public to get behind and support.

Football is the one of the richest sports in the world and we fail everytime.

Private Dancer 12:35 Wed Jun 29
Re: Roy Hodgson to face the media?
LT - Yea, he took the cowards way out, resigning immediately after a game, all a bit dramtic don't you think. 'I don't know why I'm here' translates to 'I don't want or need to explain anything' but that is wrong as the supporters deserve some kind of answers/explanations...he was still under contract for another few weeks so part of that contract should have seen him face up to a bit of scrutiniy, he would have happily lapped up the praise had we done well, so surely it should work both ways..
